Just bought tickets for the Indy 500! Not the best seats by any means, but I'm still super excited. Even though I'm generally not a fan of oval track racing, I think it will be an awesome experience to go to such an iconic race. Who else is gonna be there? (Vintage Indy 500 pic included, to make reading this worth your time.)

I don't like ovals either but I really enjoy watching the Indy 500 on TV. Nice man. Take pics

The noise is unreal, intoxicating.

I'm sure it is. Can't wait for it! The seats are pretty close down to the track, so not as good of seats, but that should just make it louder. So I'd say the trade-off is worthwhile. lol

So, I had my gopro for the Barber race. They don't take good pictures far away, at least mine didn't.

You can also walk around and watch from the grass on different hills and so forth. The only thing I don't like about it is because the track is so big you can only see part of it at a time. Try going to a NASCAR race at Kentucky too. If you suit up high you can see the entire track. The truck series puts on the best races there but all are fun to watch.

Makes sense. I'm somewhat close, so I guess we will see how it goes. Otherwise, they will be taken on my Galaxy S3 lol

IRL at Kentucky was great, I haven't been there for anything else.

Is your seat on the front stretch or in between 1 & 2 or 3 &4? You can always go down to the mounds and look around. I can't go this year, I'll be at another race that weekend. I will be going to the Grand Prix of Indy next weekend though! I like to go to IMS whenever I can, for testing, anything I can get there for.

Trucks and Nationwide are usually great racing and the Cup racing is good but there's more action with the trucks.

Are you going just for the race or will you be there for the weekend?week?month?
I live 3 hours away and usually go the Saturday of the weekend before for qualifying, then come back for the whole weekend of the race.
This new format sucks. There aren't enough cars in the field for bump day drama and qualifying goes on Saturday and Sunday the weekend before the race. I guess I'll just go the Sunday before the race to see who gets the pole position and stay home and watch the race on TV.

I'm also about 3 hours away. I'm driving in on Friday, and will be leaving Monday morning. I only purchased tickets for race day, so gonna have to find some stuff to do to kill time Friday night and Saturday.

There are no really bad seats at the 500. Been there once for the 500 and for the first NASCAR race. Have fun.

You'll love it! IMS is seriously my favorite plavce on earth. I lived an hour away from the track up until September, so I'm going through some withdrawls. I'll be driving up for Brickyard GP practice, quali, and the race, then hanging around for 3 days of oval practice before I fly back down to NC. Then flying back up for Carb Day and the race.
I always buy a Bronze Badge, nothing beats hanging out in the garages during the practice and quali days. Sad that I'll miss Pole Day and Bump Day this year...but, life happens.
You'll have a great time. It truly is one of the great cathedrals of speed.

See my reply to the OP a few up from yours....I'm the same way, I'll go there for anything. I'm excited for the Grand Prix of Indy though (just realized I called it the Brickyard Grand Prix, which was the Grand-Am race...whoops).

I'll have a Bronze Badge for the GP of Indy for the first time. Never missed an F1 race, and made the first 3 Moto GP's, now I'm not in Indy most the year so I make less races.

Bronze badge really is the way to go. I made it to the last 4 F1 races, both Grand-Am races, this is only my 7th 500, so I'm a little late to the party, and went to see MotoGP a few times...it really didn't do much for me. I relocated 700 miles away back in September, so these 2 will be the only ones I make this year. We should orchestrate some sort of meet an opponaut in real life type of thing next Thursday/Friday.

I'm now 500 miles away so I understand the pain there. I would be able to meet up next Friday.
